POPCAT Tokenomics: Supply, Liquidity and Holders

POPCAT tokenomics are about as simple as crypto gets: a fixed supply of 979,979,000 tokens, virtually all of it circulating, no team or investor allocation, no emissions and no burn. Popcat (POPCAT) put 93.1% of that supply into a Raydium liquidity pool at its December 2023 launch and burned the pool tokens, which locked the liquidity in place permanently. The other 6.9% sat in a multisig wallet reserved for exchange listings, extra liquidity and bridges.

What that structure leaves out matters as much as what it contains, and the holder distribution tells a more complicated story than the launch design suggests.

Why 979,979,000?

The anonymous deployer never published a reason for the odd figure. The repeating "979" pattern looks chosen to be memorable, much like the two-frame pop of the cat itself, and no mechanism depends on it.

What does matter is that the number is final. The mint authority is revoked, so no one can create more POPCAT, and there is no schedule releasing locked tokens into the market. As of September 2026, CoinGecko lists circulating, total and maximum supply all at about 979.98 million, which makes POPCAT's market capitalization and fully diluted valuation identical.

That identity is useful when evaluating any price target. Multiply the price by roughly 980 million and you have the market value the target implies, a quick check we apply throughout the POPCAT price prediction.

The Launch Split

POPCAT used a stealth launch without a presale, private round or public sale. The whole distribution fits in three lines:

  • Liquidity pool, 93.1%. Paired against SOL on Raydium. The LP tokens were burned, so the paired liquidity can never be withdrawn by the deployer.
  • Reserve multisig, 6.9%. Held for centralized exchange listings, additional liquidity and cross-chain bridges. Much of it has since been deployed as those listings happened.
  • Team, advisors, investors, 0%. No vesting schedule exists because nothing was set aside.

Compared with launchpad tokens, this is an older model. Newer memecoins usually launch through bonding-curve platforms, the mechanics of which are covered in our pump.fun platform guide. POPCAT predates that wave and went straight to a liquidity pool, a choice that gave early buyers a known, unchangeable float from day one.

What Burned Liquidity Protects Against, and What It Doesn't

Burned LP tokens remove the classic rug pull, where a deployer drains the pool and leaves holders with an untradeable token. That was a real risk in the 2023 Solana meme market, and POPCAT's setup ruled it out.

It does not guarantee depth. The launch pool held a fixed amount of SOL, and as POPCAT's price rose, most trading migrated to centralized exchanges and aggregators. Today the on-chain pool is one venue among many, and order-book depth on centralized markets decides how much a large trade moves the price. Traders routing on-chain swaps through aggregators should understand the difference between Jupiter and Raydium when looking for the best fill.

Burned liquidity also provides no income. There is no fee switch, no staking contract and no treasury earning yield on behalf of holders.

How Concentrated Is POPCAT?

Holder concentration is where the clean launch story gets complicated. Data aggregated by CoinMarketCap in August 2026 put the ten largest wallets at roughly 42% of supply.

That figure overstates individual control. The largest addresses on any exchange-listed token include centralized exchange hot and cold wallets, the burned liquidity pool and market-maker accounts, each of which represents many underlying owners. Even after adjusting for that, a meaningful share sits with a small number of early buyers, and their selling has driven several of POPCAT's sharpest down days.

The practical takeaway is to watch large transfers into exchange wallets. Moves of a few million dollars in POPCAT have historically preceded volatility, because the float available on order books at any moment is much smaller than the market cap suggests.

POPCAT Against Other Solana Meme Supply Models

The leading Solana memecoins took noticeably different approaches to supply:

Token Supply design Ongoing supply changes Team allocation
POPCAT 979.98M fixed None None
WIF ~998.9M fixed None None
MEW 88.89B fixed None None
BONK ~88T minted at launch Periodic burns Airdrop-heavy, with contributor share

dogwifhat is POPCAT's closest structural twin: a sub-billion fixed supply with nothing left to unlock. Cat in a Dogs World chose the same fixed approach with a far larger number of units, which produces a lower per-token price without changing the economics. BONK stands out as the one with an active supply policy, detailed in our BONK token burn analysis.

A smaller unit count gives POPCAT a higher nominal price than most memecoins, which some traders prefer and others avoid. It has no effect on value, since only market capitalization is comparable across tokens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does POPCAT have a burn mechanism?

POPCAT has no ongoing burn mechanism. The only burn in its history was the liquidity pool tokens at launch, which locked liquidity rather than removing POPCAT from supply. The token count has stayed at 979,979,000 since launch.

Can more POPCAT tokens be minted?

More POPCAT cannot be minted, because the mint authority on the Solana contract has been revoked. The supply is permanently capped, which you can confirm on Solscan.

Are there POPCAT token unlocks?

POPCAT has no token unlocks. Nothing was allocated to a team or investors, so there is no vesting schedule and no future release of locked tokens.

A Supply That Leaves Everything to Demand

POPCAT's tokenomics remove the supply-side surprises that hurt many projects: no unlock cliffs, no inflation, no deployer able to pull liquidity. That clarity cuts the other way too, because there is no mechanism to support the price when attention fades. Every move in POPCAT comes from buyers and sellers of a fixed float, which is why concentration and exchange flows deserve more attention than the supply number itself.
